Week 5 - MTC

Starting my Final Week at the Missionary Training Center (MTC)

So last Tuesday was the best day of my life. Going to the temple and feeling the infinite love that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ has for us. Emailing you guys. Then Elder Rasband came and shared all about how missionaries are called and his experience of being an apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ and being a special witness. It was soooo incredible. I wrote down a bunch of notes and will share them with you when I get back. My favorite part was when he was bearing his testimony and he said "I testify that the leaders of the church are no strangers to the voice of the Lord" I prayed a lot that day and I know and testify that the leaders of the church are guided by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that He is the head of the church. We are so blessed to be living in this time. We have prophets, seers, and revelators. It is so awesome.
Thanks for the best Valentines package ever from y'all! I was so surprised and couldn't stop smiling. Tell the activity day girls thank you soooooo much!!!! It was the sweetest thing ever! And tell Bro and Sis Datin that I love them and they are amazing. Bro Datin is such a great teacher. And Sis Datin's note to me was sooooo relatable - haha and amazing.   And theeeennn the next day I sprained my ankle playing basketball haha. Some 6'6 guy tried to block me and he ran in to me and I rolled on my ankle and it hurt sooooooo bad. I was smacking the floor and was trying not to scream. So here is the miracle. I was really pondering about the Atonement right after I sprained it and am so amazed at how Jesus Christ could suffer so much physical pain. Thinking about it made the pain reduce. Then I prayed to be healed. And I was only on crouches for 3 days!! It is still healing right now but it is so much better. Our bodies are amazing.
There is no doubt in my mind that God created us and he helps us if we just ask in prayer.   Then on Friday my district and I got our flight plans!!! I leave at 4:20 am on Tuesday morning. My travel group has 18 people in it! I go to Seattle and then to Calgary. I am sooooo excited and happy. I will not really miss the MTC, I will just miss my district.
I am so happy we are just all going around the world sharing the amazing gospel of Jesus Christ and inviting them to come unto Him.  Yesterday was probably my best day of Spanish. I understood everything my teachers said and can now understand everything in PME (Preach My Gospel in Spanish) and the scriptures. Mostly everything haha. I can teach a bit in Spanish now and I know I am ready for the field because I know that the language of the Spirit is the most important part to understand the gospel. Spanish will come with time but I know that I have the Spirit with me. The Spirit is the teacher.
This is my last week here and then I will be in Calgary!! Missions are incredible. The gospel is incredible. God the Father and Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are incredible and mean everything to me. I love my mission!

Week 4 - MTC

Time is really flying by!

I can not believe I have already been to the temple 4 times here! It is the best place on earth. I really can not wait to go to the Calgary temple. Just 2 more weeks left and I will be on my way. The MTC is awesome and I love my district but to be out there in the field teaching real people is going to be amazing.
So here is a funny story about teaching with my companions Elder Strong and Elder Nasilai. So when we were teaching the plan of salvation and the 3 kingdoms of glory to Adriana our investigator and Elder Nasilai was trying to explain hell but he forgot the word for hell in Spanish and we did too and he looked at us and he got a little frustrated and raised his voice and said como se dice, go to hell! haha then Adriana started laughing and we all started to crack up. Come to find out she does speak English but of course she acts like she doesn't.
Pretty much every lesson Elder Nasilai makes the investigator laugh and then we all start laughing. It is awesome. Then last night Elder Nasiali and Strong and I tried to make huge bubbles. We got a bucket and bunch of different kinds of soap and hanger and it actually worked - haha. My companions are super awesome and fun and spiritual. Then a really cool story. In one of our lessons when I was reciting the first vision to Jose our investigator he started crying and then I started to tear up. I felt the Spirit so strongly and I know he is there to be a mock investigator but hearing and being taught eternal truths over and over again you still feel the Spirit and still learn and realize new things. Like in the temple today I realized how great the creation is and strengthened my testimony of God our Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ our Savior.
The gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of Salvation is such a blessing to know and to have no doubts about it. I am so grateful for everything. Everyday we get to experience things for ourselves and we have the gift of free agency. We can do whatever we want in life. My greatest desire is to serve God forever and to help others to come unto Christ. Not just investigators but members, nonmembers family, friends and all people. I am doing it now on my mission :) I am so happy and there is not a better choice that I have made. Serving a mission.
I want to do the same thing when I get back from my mission. Be on a lifetime mission to help others come unto Christ. Including myself. I would love every one to read Helaman 5 and 3 Nephi 13 (Matthew 6) and more if you want.
Have a great week!

Week 3 - MTC

The MTC is sweet (but the food. . . not so much)!

So this week has been really crazy. Super busy with lessons and working so hard to learn Spanish. I have only been here for 3 weeks and I love looking back at my first day and not understanding a word of Spanish. Now I can pretty much understand everything they speak in Spanish at the MTC. It is super hard to speak it though. I can not wait until I get to the point to where I can just say my thoughts in Spanish and think of it in Spanish first. Even after that I will still work hard to improve. I am loving the language and I love the MTC even though its really hard sometimes. Doing hard things is so rewarding! This life can be sooo hard sometimes but remember that you chose to come here and experience it. You chose to have faith in our Savior Jesus Christ :) I can definitely testify that because of the Book of Mormon and my knowledge that it is true I have a testimony of Jesus Christ and what he did. Also that Joseph Smith is the prophet of the Restoration and that God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him in the sacred grove. They called him to be the prophet of the restoration. Because of the Book of Mormon I have a testimony of the plan of Salvation. Moroni 10:3-5. I have done this and I have started doing it again on my mission. I want you all to do it too. Pray before you read it everyday and pray afterwards. I promise you will feel the Spirit and your knowledge in everything will grow. I am so grateful for this knowledge.
So a bit of sad news, my MTC companion just went home. Yesterday he made the decision that it was not working out for him and he needed to return home. Last night we all said goodbye and some of us teared up. We surprised him this morning by all of us coming to the travel office and saying goodbye at 6:00 am. I wish him well and hope he is able to work things out and serve later on. I cried. It is so hard to watch a missionary go home. I can already feel the most sweet and awesome joy that comes from being a missionary and I am not even like 2% done with my mission.
There is so much joy that comes from living the gospel. Our goal in this life should be to be temple worthy and to be Christ-like. I love y'all so much. I also love the Nacogdoches 1st ward so much. I love it when I tell people I am from Nacogdoches. The look on their faces is like: whaaat? haha and then they say that's fun to say . . . Nacogdoches. There are so many stories that I have and memories that I have made here already. I still have so much more to make :) I love my mission and can't wait to get to Calgary Canada!!! I love yall as much as I love the gospel. Families can be together forever :)

Week 2 - MTC

"Everything is Awesome... Everything is cool when you're part of a team!"
So this week was awesome! Everything in the MTC is so great. The devotionals, choir, my district, Spanish, basketball, my zone, seeing all the missionaries, the temple, and most of all the Spirit. The Spirit is what makes the MTC so awesome. I play basketball almost everyday for 50 mins and everyone goes nuts when I play - haha it's so funny. Everyone is so nice. They call me "Air Mormon" on the court because of my t-shirt. I broke the record for 3s made in a row. I made 13! Now my name is up on the board. There are some crazy tall and crazy good players here though. All I can do is shoot and drive a little - haha. The tallest guy is 6'9". Too bad dunking isn't allowed.
The devotionals and choir is amazing. Every Sunday and Tuesday I feel the Spirit the most because I get to go through the temple and on Sundays I really realized how great they are. We get to rest and partake of the sacrament and just feel the Spirit. When I was in the celestial room last week, I just sat there and pondered how much Heavenly Father has blessed me with His Son. There's the picture of Jesus Christ with His arms out and you can see the nail prints in His hands and feet. Our family has been so blessed. There is nothing we can ever do to repay Him. The blessings never end. There is no place I would rather be than here.
So my first day here some of the missionaries that have been here for 3-5 weeks said that "the days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days." I was like, "What? that makes no sense". Now that I have been here for 2 weeks - it makes sense! All the days blend together and they are really long sometimes but then you realize that you were just at the temple and are going again today! It's already been a week haha! I only have one more month here. Crazy. Last night I had a dream that I was driving all of y'all to Canada - haha. Maybe we will for real someday :)
OH! also on my first night an alarm went off and I was like, "UGH", I am so tired but its the first day of my mission and I will be the first one up! I can do this! Then Elder Strong says "it's already 6:30?" and I said in my mind yep and then go hop in the shower. After I showered, I came back and everyone is still sleeping and it is like 4:50am. Come to find out Elder Strong accidentally set his alarm for 4:30am - haha.
So my Spanish is slowly improving and the more my companion and I teach, the better we get. I can't wait for Mother's Day and then you guys can hear my Spanish. It should be a lot better by then  - haha. Y'all's emails that I get everyday is the sweetest part of the day. It's so cool how Bryce and Landon are doing well in basketball. and Mason has helped me with language learning tips and mom and dad are the greatest parents ever. There are so many times that I ask why do I deserve such great and loving and caring parents. What did I do in the premortal life? I love yall so much and it's growing because I miss y'all and I am developing Christie love here on my mission. Christ can do everything. From the beginning and in the eternities Christ will always be the most important being ever. He is one with Heavenly Father. Everything in our life should be centered on Christ. Our time revolves around Him. I was born 1,997 years after Christ. I think that is super cool. One last thing. The Character of Christ by Elder Bednar is definitely my favorite talk of all time. I watched it last week on Sunday and it made me so hyped to always study God's Word and do my best to be like Christ and have the love that He has. I want everyone to come unto Him. It will makes us truly happy.
So the cupcakes and cinnamon rolls you sent were soooooo gooooood! Thank you so much. My district loved them.
On to week 3!  Adiós por ahora!
