Week 26 - Calgary

Nada mejor que la mision de Calgary en Espanol:

I do not have a ton of time because first I forgot the key to the Stake Center where we email so we had to drive back and get it and then I had to write a long letter to President Miles because we had a meeting with the Spanish program to talk about finding people to teach and what is our mission vision, like what we want to do with our mission and the time we have to serve with all of our time and efforts. It was a really awesome meeting but anyways here is an amazing miracle! So last Friday we finally got to teach Rodrigo, one of our menos activos for the first time in like a month. I taught him with Elder Sanchez and Elder Bailey many times before. He has a pretty sad story. About 6 years ago he was married and sealed to his wife in a temple in Mexico and was baptized a year before that and then about 3 years ago his wife left him. He has not been to church since more than 2 years. So the lesson we had with him last Friday we decided to teach him the lessons from Predicad Mi Evangelio really in depth. So we taught him the first 3 points of the lesson, Dios es nuestro amoroso Padre Celestial, el Evangelio bendice a las familias, y nuestro Padre Celestial revela Su Evangelio en cada dispensacion. It was super awesome because he was talking more and usually he does not because he is just super chill and pretty quiet. And also when we asked him to say the opening prayer he immediately said yes and said a really awesome prayer. He used to not do that and did not even pray when I was there with Elder Sanchez. So that was awesome and really invited the Spirit. Throughout the lesson the Spirit just kept getting stronger. Then as we started to talk about prophets he mentioned that he read the story about Nephi building a boat and how the Lord touched some stones and then we explained to him that those are 2 different stories haha. Then we all flipped over to the end of Eter 2 and Eter 3 and we all read it and every 3 verses we talked about it kind of like we did in the MTC, it was super spiritual and awesome. We talked about how amazing the faith of the brother of Jared is and how if we have faith we can see the hand of the Lord touch our lives just like the brother of Jared. I testified to him that I have seen the hand of the Lord in my life, not literally but I have felt Him touch my heart through His Holy Spirit and I know that He loves me and has helped get to where I am today and that without the Book of Mormon, the word of God, the writings of the prophets, I would not be on this mission right now, I would not want to help others come unto Christ and experience the joy that comes from it. It was also super cool because my Spanish has improved quite a bit this past month so I was able to rely my thoughts better. Then he said he wanted to have the faith of the brother of Jared and to have a spiritual experience. So we committed him to read the story again after we left and pray. Then this Sunday he went to church!!! For the first time in 2 years! I was freaking out and soooooo happy. He had to leave after Sacrament meeting because he works on Sundays but man it was amazing. I am so dangum happy :)))) I love missionary work sooooo much. Also I want yall to think about how happy God is when we take a big step or a small step towards Him and show our faith more or be more obedient or show more love to our friends or brothers and sisters. Think of the joy that our Father in Heaven has when we choose the right. Also read Ether 2 and 3 so you can see how awesome it is if you have faith and pray and do what the Lord commands. Miracles will happen and you will be happy! It is really simple, you just have to do it.

I love yall soooooo much and enjoyed looking at those pictures of all of yall in Utah!!! SOO AAWESOME! and I remember Cascade Springs clearly and walking off by myself and thinking to myself how amazing Gods creation is and how Mason is on his mission and one day I will be on my mission. It is that day! Time is truly flying by and in 2 days I will be out for 6 months!?!?! WHAT!? So crazy. Never waste your time and use your time wisely. Thats something I have learned here. Also this week is already transfers!! Unbelievable. Since I came out it was 2 7 week transfers and this one was a 6 week transfer so it has flown by. And apparently the next one is a 5 week transfer so it will go by even faster. Anyways I am doing absolutely great and all better now. I really hope I stay here and do not get transfered but we will see on Thursday and I will let you know next Monday! Time to send pics!

Week 25 - Calgary

Estoy celoso! Yo quiero estar en Utah con ustedes! Pero realmente estoy disfrutandolo aqui :))) ‏

So this email is going to be a little different to say the least haha. I have to say this week was really rough because I came up with an illness that took me out of commission for a few days. I reported to President and Sister Miles and they said looks like you will have a ton of time to do personal study! They were right haha. So that afternoon I studied some of the Atonement talks again and one of my favorite talk of all time is "In the Strength of the Lord" by Elder Bednar. It truly has helped me through so much, some of my mission, when I was trying to get over anxiety, and then what was happening this week. I really would love all of yall to study it and read all the scripture references with it and do what it says because it is just that great. So that night I thought it would be a little bit better but it got a lot worse when I went to bed that night. There was no position I could make without it hurting. So I asked for a priesthood blessing and Elder Windham, Elder Thompson, and Elder Christensen all gave me a blessing. Through the entire blessing I was just thinking, I know this is literally no pain compared to what Jesus Christ has felt and even not a lot of pain compared to what others have felt but please let this pain go away soon and then I thought of the talk by Elder Bednar and I changed my thought process. I prayed that according to my faith which is in Christ, please help me to have the strength of the Lord and to endure this because this is what God wants me to endure. Also to do what the doctor says and to have a good attitude and to still be diligent in all that I can do and know that all is well because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and my righteous desires. After the blessing nothing really changed except my thoughts. Even though I was in a lot of pain I felt at peace and I felt the Spirit. I cried some because of how little of pain we have to go through to experience so much joy and to receive incomprehensibly great blessings from God like the gift of the Holy Ghost and eternal life and our family. Christ grace is truly incredible. So that night I slept maybe 2 hours and then half way through the next day it started to get just a little bit better. Then another day of studying and watching church movies which was awesome. I learned a lot and it really invigorated me to work harder when I get better and then half way through Friday all of a sudden it got sooooo much better and I was sooo happy. I was literally singing haha you can ask my companion. And another thing is how awesome and sweet and nice other missionaries are. Like all the missionaries from my zone did something nice for me. I love them all so much haha they are awesome and funny. So ever since then it has gotten a lot better and right now I am sitting here almost all better. Sister Miles said I was not allowed to play basketball :((( haha but it doesn't matter because we found this girl named Nayeli from Mexico and she had only been here for 3 days! and she is 18 and was kind of lost so we helped her. Another funny and awesome story that I do not have time to write. So we are going to met her downtown with her friends today and have a lesson! Also we have a lesson with Gloria tomorrow so everything is going goooood!! Also I am finally losing my fear of speaking Spanish and knowing what I am actually saying and am able to understand a ton. I am loving it so much. Sometimes I am just like I can not believe how far I have come in just 5 and half months! I am so happy and am still improving. I am ready to work this week!! :D

I love yall sooooo much and can not believe how big Landon is. He is like as tall as you MOM!?! I loved those pics dad and am so happy that yall are having a great time in Utah and got to meet Allie! She sounds super awesome. I won't meet her for a year and half haha. So crazy how we had a pic of Mason when he was gone and now its me! SO COOL! Time is flying by and I am enjoying every minute of it :))

Week 24 - Calgary

Canada Day:

Happy Canada Day and 4th of July!!!!! Canada Day is on the first of July. This is so crazy, I remember when Mason was out on his mission and while we were watching fireworks at Grandpa Bobs house and I was like wow Mason still has a long ways to go before he gets home but he is home already and now I am out here serving - haha. Mind blown. It is so cool! Alright I do not have much time to write at all because the stake center we usually email at is closed so we had drive here to the library. Also my zone leaders said I took too long last time haha - soooo yeah .
This week we still were not able to meet with our investigators for one reason or another so this week Elder Windham and I really focused on finding new investigators because most of our investigators are not really progressing at all. So we started to really pray more and started to go by members houses more often and share just a super quick messages with them just to get the Spirit there and then ask for referrals. Then we also started to talk to everyone and ask for referrals, and also do as Predicad Mi Evangelio says "teach when you find and find when you teach." Towards the end of week, well last Saturday we still had not gotten any referrals and had not been able to meet with anyone and I could tell Elder Windham was pretty mad and a bit upset because he has said that he has not had a lot of success on his mission and I started to give some pep talk about missionary success and agency and how if we are doing our best and working with all of our heart might mind and strength to always be focused on helping others in any way possible and feeling the Spirit and learning and growing closer God through Jesus Christ and help others do the same and if you are dead tired at the end of the day then you know you worked hard, then God will bless us, sometimes in crazy ways and ways that we would not think of or how we want but God will bless us and those around us. Then we get a call from some English missionaries and give us a referral!!! 2 guys named Jose both from Mexico - haha and they met them downtown and one of them can not speak English hardly at all. We were like, "yes!!" And it was funny because Sister Gleason and Sister Lyu were the ones that found them and they said they tried to speak Spanish and was super funny. They are the funniest companionship ever. Sister Lyu is from Taiwan and is still learning English and Sister Gleason reminds me of you mom and also of Angie, she is just so nice, sweet, and funny haha. Anyways after the call I was like SEE!? to Elder Windham and then the phone rings again and some other English missionaries give us another referral!!! This old Spanish lady named Gloria who they found through teaching these Spanish people who have lived in Canada their whole life. Anyways miracle right!? This is what happens when you work hard and exercise faith, miracles! and the miracle is not over, we contacted both of them that night and were able to share a quick message with both of them!! We shared our testimonies of Jesus Christ and having a living prophet today and of the Book of Mormon. They said they were interested in learning more and we set up appointments with them this week :) so happy and excited. There are so many other cool and awesome and funny things that happened this week but I do not have enough time to share them all! I just know that missionary work is really the best thing ever and I want to do it for the rest of my life. I know the blessings that come from living the gospel of Jesus Christ and there really is nothing better than it. There are so many amazing and incredible things in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only church that is lead by Jesus Christ, He is the head of the church and He has called prophets and apostles today to lead and guide the people and to preach the gospel just like He did when He came to earth just over 2000 years ago. He is not just a man who lived 2000 years ago and taught good things, He, under the direction of the Father, created the earth so that we could come here and get a body like our Heavenly Father, He was foreordained to be our Savior, in the premortal life we had faith in Him that He would do it so we choose to come here and to have this life. Because He suffered for the penalties of our sins, we do not have to if we repent, because He died for us and was resurrected, we will be resurrected too no matter what. We will all live again because of Him.
I wish I had more time to express how much I love Jesus Christ and how much I know this gospel is true but I do not. Get your own testimony of Him by giving it a try, live the gospel of Jesus Christ that He teaches through His church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Read the Book of Mormon and pray. And if you are already doing this, take it to the next level and improve and you will experience more joy and miracles. :))))
I love yall soooo much and am so excited for yall to enjoy Utah with Mason and 4th of July today! Wish I was there just for today but then again I love being here even more because I know this is where God wants me to be :)

Week 23 - Calgary

Realmente estoy bien feliz con mi mission.

AGHHAGAHGHHH!!! So happy and excited for Ruth and Kim!! That is sooooo cool :) and I loooove hearing from all of you! Dad and Landon going to scout camp and sweating through the fun and Chrissy going to girls camp and doing that color run and Bryce going to SFA camp and then yall got to see FINDING DORY!?! Agh I can not wait to see that with yall when I get home. And then Mason enjoying Utah and dating Allie and all yall are going to visit Utah at the end of next week!? SO AWESOME! I feel like I am on cloud 9 right now haha. Just smiling and enjoying being here helping others while yall are doing great and fun things down there. No doubt in my mind God is blessing us because we are living the gospel and that our family is being strengthened. LO AMO!! :D

So we were not able to meet with Marlon this week or any of our investigators because they are either busy with work or going on vacation or we can not get a hold of them. The awesome thing is that even though there are some weeks like this when you can not meet with your investigators or you do not have any you always have amazing experiences if you are just being obedient and always looking for something to do, no matter what mission you are in I know this is true. So this week we helped 5 people move and 2 of them was just some people we saw moving out close to our apartment and the other we were just walking downtown. The one close to our apartment they were from Nigeria and I have no clue what language they were speaking but we just went over there and said can we help? and they all said "Yes!! Do you serve God?" and we said yes and they said "GOOOOODD!!" it was so funny and their English was not very good and I really don't know how to say there names or spell them soooo yeah haha. They looked soooo happy when we came to help them and really just seeing them smile and try to speak English and say what we were doing is good was so sweet. Then the other one was super cool too, well all of them are awesome but I can not share all of them. OH YEAH! I will share this one! So this new English investigator some other Elders have needed help with a move but they could not go so we did. So Elder Windham and I decide to walk there because it was kind of close to our apartment and also Calgary is just absolutely beautiful right now so a lot of people are out walking and biking and stuff so we get there and she is just a super nice and sweet old lady named Lyla and we get to helping her move everything into the truck and talk and get to know her and half way through she gives us some water and brings out her dog named Bubbles and he could do some awesome tricks haha like across the room you would point your fingers like a gun and say bang and he would fall over and play dead until you say something and he would give you high fives and stuff but anyways haha then after we got all done she gives us thanks and then she stops and gets quiet and lowers her voice and asks "Do you know that Jesus Christ is real?" and we say yes for sure and then she asks "Have you seen Him?" and we say no and like not in this life we have not and then she goes on about how she sees Jesus Christ almost everyday and talks to Him face to face just like she is talking to us and how she sees angels they talk to her and they give her power and that her greatest power is to heal. So then I was like woooow that's amazing and start to ask her what does Jesus Christ and the angels look like and what do they say and if she writes all of it down because that is what you are supposed to do so you can remember and show others and stuff like that and I was asking genuinely because this is really what she believes so I want to know. So she starts telling us these crazy stories of how great she is because she can heal people and she already has eternal life and then she compares it to the Mormon church and says the Mormons do not have any miracles and stories like this, but then Elder Windham shares this awesome story of him and his bishop back home giving a priesthood blessing to his little brother who had scoliosis and then just a day later it was gone and was healed. And then she asks why there is no archaeological proof of the Book of Mormon but there is for the Bible and then we got into that and then we talked a lot about the trinity and what she was saying made no sense of how God the Father and Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are one being but come in different forms and then we shared the intercessory prayer in John 17 (one of the coolest chapters ever, you should read it) and what Gods purpose is for us and why He sent His Son Jesus Christ to suffer and die for us. She just argued with us and then we shared Acts 7:55-60 which is another incredible scripture and story about Stephen and she just said we have to go back and see what the original bible says in Greek and stuff and we said ok we will do that. And then she kept on going on about how we will never be like God and we are always sinning and everything we do is bad and when she started saying stuff like this for some reason I just got this super bad and sad feeling and then I was thinking nooooooo and then I sort of interrupted her and started bearing my testimony of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and of the Holy Spirit and of the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and how I was able to overcome the West Nile Virus, anxiety and depression disorders, sins that I had committed in the past, all because of studying and praying about the Book of Mormon. I know the Book of Mormon is true. Through the Book of Mormon all my questions were answered. I was healed. My thoughts, actions, behavior, and the way I looked at people all changed because of learning of Jesus Christ through the Book of Mormon. Now I have the desire to help people and to do good things always and to not sin. I testified to her that because of the Book of Mormon I am here serving this mission and Elder Windham and I helped you because we want to do good things and not sin and help others. There is no way that what we just did was a sin or bad. We are trying to do what Jesus Christ would do. My greatest desire is to have the love and charity that Jesus Christ has so I can help people. The only way we can do this is through His Atonement. So after I said all of this her countenance changed and said "wow" and asked me some questions about the West Nile Virus and I answered them. Then we invited her to read and study the Book of Mormon and pray about it for herself and figure it out for herself. She said she would and thanked us again for helping her. It was so awesome. It is truly amazing how we are literally worth nothing and everything is pointless without Jesus Christ. We have no power, we have no worth, we are no good, but because of Jesus Christ and His Atonement everything changes. We can change, we can repent. We must have faith. I love this gospel and know it is true. I hope and pray that every one in the world will read and study the Book of Mormon and pray about the Book of Mormon and do as Moroni says, Moroni 10:2-7. You will feel happy and change and experience the greatest joy if you follow the word of God. You will feel the Holy Spirit. I promise you.

I love yall so much and am so happy that we have Jesus Christ and know His gospel. We just have to live it aanannnddd SHARE IT! :)))
