Week 78 - Calgary

Adivinan cuando regresare 😊
Oh my gosh I swear the weeks just keep going by faster and faster. This week has been so much fun and really busy. So I will start off with a funny story. So Elder Fish and I see this pretty cool park we have never been too and so we go there, talk to people and its super nice and Elder Fish looks up and sees a "red moon!" At first I was like nooo wayyyy! That looks amazing! And then I was like in my mind waaaaiit that can't be the moon, that's the sun, the clouds are just making it look super cool. So then I go along with it with Elder Fish then I say we gotta take some pictures! And then as we took some pictures some kids who are like 7 years old walk by and Elder Fish turns to them and points "hey look! the moon is red! Isn't that cool!?" And then one of them just says, "nooo that's the sun you idiot" and just walk away and I start dying laughing and so does Elder Fish haha it was sooo great. Alright and here's an awesome miracle that happened. So I think I told y'all last week that we have been getting a ton of people to teach for the English missionaries lately and they all have been miracles like this week we had another awesome one. We found this family from Ghana, well they found us and they just walked into the church this Sunday and asked about the church and everything and we gave them to the Sister missionaries and that family is sooo ready to receive and live the gospel. The sisters said the first lesson with them was incredible and that the reason why the family wanted to come to the church was because some missionaries in Ghana did a lot of service for them a while back. Super awesome and goes to show you that no effort is wasted. Anyways we prayed a lot one night to find someone who was really just as prepared as these people we have been finding for the English missionaries and then the next day at dinner with Hermana Rodriguez, as we start to eat she just says "so I have someone for you to teach Elders! My brother! His name is Manuel and he finally is now really interested in the church and he wants to take the lessons!" Elder Fish and I were pretty shocked and super happy. So then a couple days later we meet him, his name is Manuel and is from Mexico but has only been here for about 4 months so we told him about our ESL classes that we teach and he said he would come, then we taught the first lesson to him, the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and halfway through the lesson one of his friends comes and we teach him too! His name is Ramon and has been here a bit longer than Manuel. He said he was willing to listen and learn so at the end of the lesson we invite them to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and come to church and they say yeah we will for sure. Then we ask them if they want to get baptized and Manuel said yes!!! It was so amazing and Ramón said he doesn't know yet and wants to learn more but that's still good. So yeah that was incredible. Definitely an answer to our prayers and efforts in finding. Then this past Saturday we had a big picnic barbecue thing as a ward at this nice park and tons of people came including Manuel and Ramón and we played volleyball an other games. It was super fun and super good turn out. Agh I love the Spanish people here so much. And it's soooo nice to play games and sports with them because you learn new sayings and words and it's just awesome. So yeah the work is going soooo well here and I am lovin my mission as much as ever and I finally understand a little bit of what a missionary feels when he or she is going home because guess what!? I got a call from the mission office this week and so I am coming home on January 10th!! I was pretty shocked to get that phone call this early but I guess President Miles is just planning for the future. I don't know but yeah January 10th is the day and after the phone call a rush of emotions hit me and I was like wooah this is so craazzzyyy! Aghhhh I'm like sad but also happy and excited but don't want it to end but I want to see y'all and yeah it's just the weirdest craziest feeling ever. But then shortly after I stopped thinking about it and it's all good now! I got an amazing 6 months ahead of me and will be continuing loving this time I have. I do have to say I am so beyond excited to see y'all on that day. It's been a while haha I love y'all a ton and hope yall are loving the summer! Its goin by fast so enjoy it!
Love, Elder Proctor

Week 77 - Calgary

Casi estoy hecho con mi mision de hermana jaja
Here I am again!!! So weird and crazy how I am here writing y'all again. The weeks really have been going by faster and faster.  Anyways this week was super awesome just like every week of my mission. Even if people are not receptive to us there is always like so many miracles throughout the week. So yeah this week was pretty hard for finding for us. One day we literally knocked on like 50 plus doors and only 4 people answered and they weren't interested. But one super important thing I have learned on my mission is that if you are working hard and showing God that you love Him and are obedient and trying your best, the Lord will bless you in so many ways. So super randomly we get a text from some sister missionaries from the Hawaii Visitors Center and they give us a referral! This guy named Ian Wallace and by the name we were like aghh because he's English but we gave him to the English Elders and they had been struggling finding people to teach too and then at zone conference we shared our experiences and miracles we had from the mission fast we had and the Elders shared that they had really been struggling finding and even the whole day for the mission fast they didn't find anyone but then 2 days after they got Ian Wallace and turns out he is like the most golden guy ever and he went to church and wants to get baptized and asking crazy questions like "Am I allowed to go to the priesthood meetings? Is it possible for me to have the priesthood?" So it was super awesome hearing that at zone conference and just being a part of this great work is soooo fulfilling and its just like the First Presidency says at the beginning of Preach My Gospel "We compliment you on the great opportunity you have to be a missionary. There is no more compelling work than this, nor any which brings greater satisfaction." It really is the best thing in the world to be a missionary especially right now because the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is literally reaching every part of the world. It is so cool to me and also at zone conference the sisters that came out with me are going home in a couple weeks so it was their last zone conference and they bore their testimonies at the end of the conference and each shared like one of their craziest awesomest miracle and felt the Spirit so strongly and then I thought, where did the time go?!?! I just came out but now all my sisters are going home!? And hearing the incredible stories and testimonies of them made me just feel like in awe for the amount of blessings God gives us and the tender mercies we can see and the amount of happiness and joy we feel if we just choose to love and follow and live the gospel that God has given us. And I loved how all of the sisters ended with their super strong but simple testimony of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. It really hit me hard and it makes me so grateful for my mission because having these experiences everyday really will help me so much throughout my life. I can promise y'all that y'all don't have to be on a mission right now to experience this happiness and joy that comes from missionary work. This past Sunday we did a missionary activity with the youth and their parents and we committed them to be more involved with missionary work and pray for a stronger desire to do it and to pray for all of their friends and other things and it was super cool and some of the members have already shared with us some cool things they have experienced from it. So I want y'all to do the same! Take more time out of your week to actually live the gospel and not just sit down and play video games or watch Netflix all day and read and study the scriptures more and actually apply what you learn and pray to feel the Spirit and share it with your friends and just love and serve one another and pray for these things, God will help you. When you do y'all will feel the Spirit so much more and it'll just make your life easier and will make your summer even awesomer! Alright I gotta wrap up now but I love y'all and hope y'all have an awesome weeek!!

Week 76 - Calgary

O Canada

Soooo much happened this week! So I will start off by saying that its funny how everyone thinks Canada is the coldest place on earth and all of these Canadians up here are so proud of it and it might be the same way in Nacogdoches where we are proud of how hot it is but these past 2 weeks have been wayyy worse than Nacogdoches. Mainly because they don't build apartments and hardly any houses with AC..  so it would be like not having power in Nac for 3 months in the summer.. its awful and its the funniest thing ever because Canadians are so proud of it being cold even though the extreme cold only lasted like 2 months and then its fine and then they say summer only lasts like 2 weeks.. and I am just like what?????? its been hot for like 2 months already haha I didn't complain last summer but now I am saying something to y'all haha its just sooo funny to me. I bought 2 fans so now I have 3 fans blowing on me at night so now its all good. Anyways this week has been so much fun and busy there have been tons of Stampede breakfasts and barbecues so we have been going to a lot of those and there's more this week and we have been able to find lots of people for the English missionaries to teach and the mandarin Elders here found someone for us to teach! Its awesome because we are all working to together. I love Stampede and we have to go after my mission one day. Every time we tell people we are not allowed to go they feel so sad for us haha. And it was soooo awesome because at one of the breakfasts in the north of Calgary I got to see Felix and Sarah!! It was so incredible and Felix is doing so well. He looks so happy and just has that look and countenance now of being a strong member of the church.  I love Alma 5:14 "And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?" President Miles shared this scripture with me in interviews and just said I look so happy and its growing because I am showing my love and faith to the Lord. And then for to see the same thing happening to Felix is the best thing about missionary work for me. Seeing like everything in ones life change because of the gospel and seeing them have true happiness. Alright so Elder Fish just sent me the story we had with Raul last Friday night, here it is haha  - "So, we went to dinner at the house of our investigator and he is living with his girlfriend who is a less active member. Anyway we had dinner there and the 4 Hermana's who serve in our ward had dinner there too. So we got there and he was acting a little bit off. But we all sat down and started chatting while his girlfriend was finishing the food, so after a while it was pretty clear that he was drunk, so during the conversation he told us how he was born in the states, and how he wants to go back and live there someday even though he wasn't born in the states. also one of the Hermana's was asking him questions, and he put his hand in front of his eyes and in English said, "Why you FBI? Why you FBI? She is FBI!" haha, that was really funny. and then a while after that I made a joke and he was like "hahahhahahaha, I'm going to get baptized in the name of *squints and looks at my name tag* Fish!!!!" then he got up and went to do something in the garage and drink some more. and then his girlfriend gave us the food... so it was tortillas(the normal little corn ones) with chicken wieners(hot dogs) and they had guacamole, mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup... I ate them and she asked if anyone wanted more, I said yes 2 please, and Proctor said 1, haha the Hermana's didn't though. in fact one of the Hermana's had to go to the bathroom during dinner(later we found out that she put the hot dog in a napkin and wrapped it up, and stuffed it in her garments and then went to the bathroom, flushed it down the toilet, and then threw up) and then, he came back, but more drunk, started yelling at his girlfriend and saying he hates America and Americans, and then yelled at his girlfriend, and then went back to the garage. so that was really crazy", So yeah Helen freakin drenched those hot dog tacos in gauc and ketchup and mayo and mustard.. like a stupid amount of it all.. we were all soooo confused and we just had to eat them and Elder Fish apparently didn't think they were bad! He is crazy haha and I just asked for one more so she would'nt feel bad. The whole experience was really crazy but after we shared a super awesome message with the member and she cried and its just a hard situation. We are doing our best to help her boyfriend quit but I believe it will take some time.
Well I guess I gotta wrap now but I want to end on saying that I have really learned why we have commandments. I understand and its so clear like sooo clear to me why we have every commandment that we do. God really has given us everything we need to be happy, it just depends on us to choose to follow and serve Him and love Him and His children and keep His commandments and we really wont have any problems with all the sad and hard things that happen in the world. We might have really hard trials or someone might do wrong to us but its nothing compared to the wrong that the Savior went through, so we can easily turn to Him for help and we will still be happy through our trials and problems we might have in life. I love y'all and hope y'all are doing everything you can to keep all the commandments God has given us and continue to improve and grow and be happier. Hope y'all are enjoying the summer! I am looking forward to the next so I can do stuff with y'all! Sooooo weird I am hitting my 18 month mark this month. Happy I got 6 more though :) todo va a estar bien.

Week 75 - Calgary

Todo va estar bien
So this week was different and interesting. Still super awesome and fun. But I finally had one of those weeks where literally every lesson we had planned canceled and or we go to the house and they are leaving or they leave us a note saying they are out of town.. haha I haven't had a week or day like that in a long time so I guess it finally came around but anyways our week was still full! We did so much service this week. We helped 2 families move and the sister missionaries move so 3 moves. And the sister missionaries had this really big couch that was super hard to get out of their basement they were in and then we take it to their new basement and we try getting the couch in for like 30 minutes but it just would not fit so they got rid of it. Then the next day we helped this family move in and they had sooo much stuff, like the biggest Uhaul they have filled to almost the top. Dang I always forget to take pics.. Anyways so we were supposed to start at 5:30pm but they didn't get there until like 7:00pm so we tried to go super fast and I was exhausted and then like one of the last things in the truck was a huge couch like the sister missionaries and Elder Fish and I looked at each other and were like nooooooo and moved in to an apartment on the 5th story and luckily they have an elevator but that couch wouldn't fit. So Elder Fish and I hual that thing up 5 flights of stairs and all the way down the hall and we try so hard for like 30 mins to get it in but then the dad gets super mad at his wife because he knew it wouldn't fit and to be honest I have learned a lot of bad Spanish words over my mission and he used them all. It was crazy and he was raising his voice at his wife because she really wanted the couch. They are members and so we just stopped and asked if we could share a scripture with them and take a little break and calm down and we shared Doctrine and Covenants 6:36 - Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not. And I just testified to them that this scripture helped me so much when I was stressed or anxious or had fear about things that didn't really matter at all and to focus on and think of how Jesus Christ would handle the situation and then the mood and the feeling in the room changed and the Spirit came in and the dad apologized to his wife and us and then we just hauled that couch back down and that took a while and next thing we know it is 10:40pm!! They apologized and we went home and I slept so good that night and was sore forever haha. So I am running out of time but I want y'all to know that all of our problems and trials are real and it doesn't matter what they are, they are things that test us to turn to the Savior and become like Him. So however small or big the problem or trial is, just turn to the Savior and think of Him. And it will help a lot if you actually pray and read the scriptures with real intent and actually learn who Jesus Christ is. I love John 17:3. So many people just say "What would Jesus do?" but they don't' even know Him. So get to know Him by going to His church and reading His words in the scriptures and praying and really serving and loving one another. I am loving my mission so much because I am really coming to know who Jesus Christ is and loving and serving every one here. I love y'all and hope y'all have an awesome 4th of July!!!! Agh I is y'all but "todo va estar bien" that's' been my phrase like this whole year. Todo va estar bien its like everything's gonna be alright :)))
